Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES' New Anime Shorts Expands Monster Lore

Konami announced an anime shorts series featuring lore on the monsters within Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES.

Have you ever wondered what is the lore behind some of the monsters and people drawn on Yu-Gi-Oh! cards? Konami announced that they have been working on a “promotional short anime series” that will do something to somewhat answer this question while promoting Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES. The announcement was made at Jump Festa 2025, the annual major manga and anime convention in Japan. A teaser was dropped to show off the animation style for this upcoming short anime series.

This concept will help to understand the characters behind the cards, especially the more humanoid classic cards like Dark Magician or Celtic Guardian. However, Konami animation will be adapting the lore for some of the newer cards to focus more on promoting the cards for Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES. Konami stated the episodes will be dedicated to the cards of Fallen of Albaz and Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous.

The teaser showed off the visuals of the upcoming short anime series, with the animation style looking similar to an isekai like the Fate anime/game/manga series. Konami stated how these episodes will expand the lore for iconic cards Sky Striker Ace – Raye and Sky Striker Ace – Roze: two rivals destined to face off using advanced technology. Additionally, there will also be episodes dedicated to the cards of Fallen of Albaz and Dogmatika Ecclesia, the Virtuous. Most of the cards featured in this series will be from the 25th anniversary set.

Yu-Gi-Oh! CARD GAME THE CHRONICLES' New Anime Shorts Expands Monster Lore 2

I think it is fair to say, we all visualized the cards coming alive when we were kids. There was also the anime series Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, which provided some lore behind the card game. While it built its own human lore, some of the cards had their lore explained in this early 2000s series. The show also featured some of the greatest memes to this day!

Konami Animation is an in-house studio for Konami, which was established earlier this year. The studio will leverage the company’s knowledge of game production into the creation of works of animation for Yu-Gi-Oh! In addition to creating Konami-related IP, the studio plans to work on a wide range of other works. Back in February, they dropped a six-minute video to celebrate Yu-Gi-Oh!‘s 25th Anniversary by showing a highly-stylized anime adaptation for some iconic monsters from the card game.
