5 Exciting Crunchyroll Anime Series To Watch In Spring 2025

Crunchyroll revealed its anime catalogue for the next season, and spring 2025 has some major ones returning or dropping for the first time.

Anime audiences will have a lot of exciting anime to keep them entertained for the 2025 spring season. This week, Crunchyroll announced their spring 2025 lineup of anime series kicking off soon, some starting as soon as the end of March. As usual, the catalogue will be filled with a mashup of continuing series, new seasons of returning series, and freshly-made series. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 will be continuing through spring, every Friday, while One Piece’s Egghead Arc is expected to return on April 6, 2025.

One notable Crunchyroll animeThe Unaware Atelier Meister, premiering as a brand-new series on March 30, is a fantasy adventure following kind-hearted errand boy Kurt Rockhans. He is a member of a hero’s party, the Flaming Dragon Fang, who is kicked out one day. When Kurt finds out he does not have great combat skills, he must use his other skills to make a living.

A few days after that premiere, another series from EMT Squared will be premiering on April 1 called Catch Me at the Ballpark! As Major League Baseball spring training is in full effect, this anime also springs into action. The series was described as a rom-com series filled with laughs and tears, especially dedicated to those involved in professional baseball.

5 Exciting Crunchyroll Anime Series To Watch In Spring 2025 2

Rather than being a typical sports anime focused on the players, this series puts those in the stands at center stage. Baseball fan Murata finds escape at a nearby baseball stadium. While the games are thrilling, it’s Ruriko—the gyaru as cold as the beer she serves but secretly a sweetheart—who keeps him coming back.

As for the most-anticipated anime series premiering on Crunchyroll, this list took a combination of factors into account. Some are my recommended picks, some are returning series beloved by many, and one hits close to home.

Here are CGMagazine’s top five picks for Crunchyroll’s spring 2025 anime series.

1. Fire Force Season 3 (David Production) — April 4

David Production has rekindled the flame that burned bright since Fire Force Season 2 ended back in December 2020. Five years later, Season 3 continues, picking up where Shinra and the team are about to uncover the world’s greatest secret.

But just as the other Special Fire Force Companies unite to face the looming disaster, Obi is captured by the Tokyo Imperial Army, and Company 8 is branded as traitors. Hunted by the Empire, they must fight alone to rescue Obi and stop the Evangelist—all while a new assassin and the corrupt Captain Burns block their path. From the sound design to the crystal-clear animation, Fire Force gripped my attention from the very first episode.

2. WIND BREAKER Season 2 (CloverWorks) — April 3

WIND BREAKER makes sense to be on this list, as many viewers praised its unique delinquent storyline and well-produced fight scenes. The story follows Haruka Sakura, who has no interest in weaklings—only the strongest fighters. Upon starting at Furin High, a school known for its student brawlers who protect their town, Haruka seeks to battle his way to the top. While this manga was not as big as the similarly themed Tokyo Revengers, it was refreshing to see some fairly fleshed-out characters within this style of story.

3. GUILTY GEAR STRIVE: DUAL RULERS (SANZIGEN) — April 5

The main plot centers around Sin Kiske, the forbidden child of a human and a magically crafted biological weapon called a Gear. He lives in a world where magic has replaced science, and scars from the Gear rebellion remain. Attending his parents’ taboo-breaking wedding, he encounters a mysterious girl with a deep hatred for Gears, and their fateful meeting threatens to upend the world once again. Fans of the games will know this anime series continues from the events at the end of Guilty Gear -Strive-.

What is great about this series is that it was said to be a fun experience for fans but also accessible for newcomers to the Guilty Gear series. With the characters being the strong point of the games, this anime made sense to expand the world and capture new fans through a new medium.

4. To Be Hero X (BeDream) — April 5

The Crunchyroll spring 2025 lineup of anime features many series revolving around the concept of heroes. To Be Hero X has already gained a following as it is an original Chinese donghua series created by Li Haolin, who worked alongside Bilibili, Aniplex and BeDream to bring it to TV screens. It takes place in a world where superheroes are made based on “trust.” If people believe a hero can fly, they will gain the ability to fly.

Consequently, this means that even if a hero has special powers, if they lose trust, they will also lose their abilities. Trust is collected as data, and the ranking of heroes changes depending on its value. Once every two years, the top heroes gather to compete in a hero tournament. Their performance in the tournament updates their “trust value,” and the ranking is reconstructed. The absolute hero who stands at the top of the rankings is known as “X.” Fans of Haolin’s work with Link Click will be excited to see his latest project, which is a bit more action-packed.

5. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes (Bones Film) — April 7

My Hero Academia has been one of my favourite shonen series of all time, both the anime and manga. It was amazing to see that the spin-off is also getting some love, especially as the main series is already in its final arc. My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a prequel of sorts, featuring characters that fans of the main series will recognize, but with different protagonists and villains that fit this specific time within the universe.

What makes this manga special to me is its ability to maintain the same heart as the main series while telling its own story and expanding the lore of the original content.

This tale within the My Hero Academia world begins with Koichi Haimawari, a dull college student who aspires to be a hero but has given up on his dream. Although 80 per cent of the world’s population has superhuman powers called Quirks, few are chosen to become heroes and protect people. Everything changes for Koichi when he and Pop☆Step are saved by the vigilante Knuckleduster and are recruited to become vigilantes themselves.

Bonus Pick: Anne Shirley (The Answerstudio) — April 5

I only recently discovered how popular Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery is in Japan, and it wasn’t until I deep-dived into this anime series that I truly grasped its impact. This is also the third anime series based on the world of Anne Shirley. It’s very rare to see Canada represented in an anime series, let alone one set in the smallest province—Prince Edward Island.

This anime adaptation continues the legacy story following the orphan Anne Shirley, who is mistakenly sent to Green Gables, the home of Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. Despite the mix-up, they choose to adopt her anyway, and Anne finds friendship, love, and happiness in her new home. The series captures the essence of the original story—a pure-hearted and imaginative girl growing up, leaving for college, and returning home a changed woman.

I am very curious to see how beautifully P.E.I. is drawn in this surprising addition to the spring 2025 anime lineup. I’m glad it’s coming out among the many fresh series debuting this season. Let us know which anime series you’re most excited to check out from Crunchyroll’s spring 2025 slate.
