The 2025 Golden Globes: The Brutalist & Shōgun Win Big 1

The 2025 Golden Globes took place last night, allowing the best in film and television to get their rightful accolades.

2024 had a lot of great contenders for the best film and television show. Cinematic moments with Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine and Universal Pictures’ Wicked were trending for the longest of times. To kick off the entertainment awards season, the 2025 Golden Globes was hosted by comedian Nikki Glaser last night—honouring the best in last year’s film and TV. While the awards battle was fierce, The Brutalist took home 3 wins out of its 7 nominations, and Shōgun won 4 major awards in TV.

Jacques Audiard’s Emilia Pérez was not a film to be overlooked at the 2025 Golden Globes either with its 10 nominations, and earning 4 wins to their plate. Speaking more on trends, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ score for Challengers earned them a win for making that beat (and sweaty tennis players) stuck in all of our heads for months! Another tough fight for best animated motion picture took place in this year’s lineup, but it was Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis’ Flow that came out on top.

Another awesome standout for TV was seeing Colin Farrell earn his dues for his amazing performance/transformation as the Penguin in the HBO Max series The Penguin. Unfortunately, co-star Cristin Milioti was beat out in the TV actress category by the sublime Jodie Foster for True Detective: Night Country. Stand-up comedy is a category I personally enjoy from time-to-time, and this year’s winner was Ali Wong for Single Lady. The 2025 Golden Globes host Glaser had an opportunity to take home this award herself but unfortunately could not bag it.
