Roll7’s OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome games are now delisted from Steam for unknown reasons, but there is speculation as to the reasons.
Roll7 is notable for their genre mashups with skating. In recent reports, Roll7’s games OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome are no longer available to purchase on the Steam store. So far, there is no clear reason why this disappearance occurred, but there is speculation that it had to do with the recent changes in ownership at the head. If players want to buy these games now, though, they can still do so on the PlayStation Store, and OlliOlli World is still available on the Switch eShop.
While this is just rumours, the games’ delisting could be a direct result of Take-Two Interactive’s decision in November to sell the indie label Private Division, which published both games. The label selloff did not initially reveal who the buyer was until a Bloomberg report uncovered the buyer was Haveli Investments, a private equity firm based in Austin, Texas. This report indicated the new company owner would “inherit the games and franchises of Private Division.” That presumably includes the works of Roll7 published by Private Division, OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome.
The report continued to state how Haveli intends to launch a new company that will publish Private Division’s remaining unreleased games, staffed by former Annapurna Interactive employees. However, they never discussed the QoL for existing games like Roll7’s already-released titles.
Sadly, this news was not a complete surprise for Roll7 as last May saw Take-Two laying off a major portion of their Private Division staff, and claimed it would shut down Roll7 and Kerbal Space Program 2 dev Intercept Games. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated how the publisher did not shut down Roll7 or Intercept Games, and a confirmation six months later revealed that both studios closed prior to the sale of Private Division.
For now, PS4 and PS5 players can still take advantage of Roll7’s games—at least until a formal statement is made explaining why these games have disappeared from Steam and other console stores. However, Steam players can still enjoy the other OlliOlli games since they were published under Devolver Digital.
For now, it remains uncertain whether these games will be delisted across all platforms until Haveli provides clarification. I really enjoyed the high-octane action of Rollerdrome, so I hope it returns to Steam for others to check out.
